Little Bikes
Big Love

Lightweight
Alloy Frame

The lighter the bike, the more easily it can be pushed along, steered and lifted which will help your child cycle with confidence.

The LittleBig frame is made from 6061-T6 aluminium which is commonly used in road and mountain bikes due to its light weight and durability. In short, the frame is carefully designed to give your child the best start on two wheels.

Fast Rolling
14 Inch Wheels

The LittleBig 14 inch balance bike wheel gives a stable ride and glides over a range of terrain with ease. Forest trails, school rides, BMX track, pump track, these tyres can handle it all.

The air-filled rubber tires are comfortable, grippy, and easily replaceable should they eventually wear out. The lightweight alloy rims roll on sealed cartridge bearings which are quiet and will run smoothly for years.

A Real Bike
Not A Toy

LittleBig is hand-assembled in Ireland with proper parts, including a lightweight pivotal saddle, alloy riser handlebar and forged alloy BMX-style stem. These are all adjustable to ensure the bike is the perfect fit for your child, allowing them to push their limits and explore new adventures.

V-brakes front and rear ensure your little one can stop quickly and safely. Short-reach alloy brake levers work with little hands.

Both a Balance Bike
And A Pedal Bike

Fitting the separate pedal kit to the balance bike converts it into a pedal bike. When your little one is ready to begin pedalling, just add these and off they go!

Having learned to balance first, your child’s transition to pedalling will be easy, and usually only takes a few short goes.

“Big Blue” travels along wherever we go!
The quality, robust and ingenious design makes us both, father and son, proud and creates a sense of care.
It gives me great pleasure to see my 3 year old enjoying his bike!

We love our son’s LittleBig Bike. I only regret we hadn’t found it sooner!!! Our son is 4 and had another balance bike before we bought him this bike. Simon was a great help answering our questions and it was shipped to Spain really quickly. We love that the LittleBig Bike has brakes as our son learned to stop himself “properly” (before we added the pedals)…without using his feet or needing one of us to catch him at the bottom of a hill. Once we added the pedals, he transitioned easily within two days. People can’t believe he just turned 4 and was riding a pedal bike with no stabilizers. I also really appreciate the bike’s classic design. It’s not gender specific and we love that it isn’t themed with Spiderman, Paw Patrol or Star Wars as many of the bikes on the market are. This way it can easily be passed down. We truly can’t say enough good things about the bike! Thanks LittleBig Bikes!

We came across littlebigbike through google as we were looking for a balance bike to replace my two year old daughter’s tricycle for Christmas. Simon was quick at responding to all our questions. We’re pleased with our purchase as despite the colour we were after being out of stock; Simon ensured one was ordered and arrived on time. Most part of the bike came already pre-assembled so you only need to follow a few simple instructions to complete.

Unfortunately the bell we ordered was missed in the initial shipment but was shipped immediately afterwards.

Overall an excellent balance bike – well thought through to accomodate ages from 2 to 7 years old. Excellent customer service and we would highly recommend littlebigbikes. Most importantly my daughter loves her new bike and she’s practising in the park as often as she can. It would be great if littlebigbikes had other accessories such as handle bar ends and mud guards.

I had been researching quality children’s bikes for weeks when I found this site. My 4 yr old daughter has been needing a bigger bike and is ready for pedals, but I was determined that she would not have a coaster brake. In the United States all bikes with wheels under 20in are required by law to be sold with coaster brakes (stupid I know), so I was very happy to find this option. Quality bikes sold in the US get around his law by selling a separate freewheel kit, but at the end of it all you’re out around $400 and the lower end! I wanted my girl (and the boys after her) to have a quality bike that they would love to ride and I found it here. A lot if bike for the money, and it grows with the child. My daughter loves her bike and that she can go faster than she could on the 12″ wheels if her old strider. The handbrakes are easy to pull and she figured them out quickly. The only criticisms I have are that the bike is too big for her in the “big” setting, so we will have to wait a little longer for pedals even though she is ready, and the other issue was that the brakes needed a lot of adjustment when it arrived. When the bike got to us, the brakes would drag on the wheel. The issue was easy enough to resolve and was probably due to shipping. Overall love it, great product.

  5. Emma S.

Great bike, looks good, lightweight enough for our kid to pick up when needed, easy to use, great size range (our 5 year old is on the lowest seat setting for the “big bike”) LOVE that it converts to a pedal bike. This bike sits more like a road bike and less Like a cruiser, which seems to be preferred by my kids because “it’s faster”. The only con I have is that the breaks are hard to put on when you attach the pedals. For someone with a mechanical mind I’m sure it’d be easier, but that’s not me so I had to enlist help from my father in law. Love the customer service, super helpful and responsive to emails. I would and often do recommend this company. We’re buying a second for our two year old, and next Christmas when our last little one is a little bigger he’s getting one too.

We got our 5 year old this bike for his birthday. We were trying to get him off the training wheels and after a few weeks on this balance bike we added the pedals. As soon as he pushed off the first time he had it down, it was so natural!

  6. Eric Lake

My recently turned 4 year old son outgrew his smaller “Balance” Bike and was not quite ready for a pedal bike yet. I had some questions prior to purchase and Simon responded rapidly to answer my questions. Ordering the LittleBig bike was super easy, and the bike showed up in California in less than a week form the shipping date with no damage. Assembly was easy and my son was ripping around the neighbourhood in no time. His legs are a tad too short for stage 2, so I set him up for stage 1 and after one ride he was using the hand brakes to stop himself. I am very impressed with the build and quality of the frame and I would recommend the LittleBig bike to anyone. I can’t express my joy to share my passion for bicycling with my little man and I believe that the LittleBig Bike is setting him up for a lifelong love of cycling. Thanks so much LittleBig, you have surpassed my (very steep) expectations.

The bike engineering is ingenious, high quality, and built to last. Shipping was astonishingly fast; we received it in the US within just 4 days. Communication and customer service were outstanding and they kindly modified the brakes to adhere with US standards.

  8. Rebecca Purcell

Delighted with this purchase especially as it is an Irish design!

Bought Sept/Oct 2015 for our then 3 1/2 year old daughter.

It’s a beautiful, quality piece of equipment, easy to assemble and also to convert to a peddle bike.

Due to its sturdy build, it’s a bit on the heavy side for a balance bike, especially when our daughter had had enough “cycling”.

Our daughter quickly got the hang of balancing, and asked for the peddles to be added after we had moved back to Dublin from the UK late last year. After practicing a few times, she is now able to cycle by herself, though we still have to help her push off. She loves the bike, is very motivated to take it out to practice, and should be able to fully cycle by herself after this spring and summer are over.

The whole transition of first balancing, then properly cycling on a single bike worked out even better than we had hoped for.

We were regularly asked where we had bought the bike while we were living in the UK last year! It really turned heads at our local skate park where our daughter was brave enough to try it out on some small slopes!!

Very happy with this purchase. Bought it last spring for our then 3.5Y old daughter. It’s a beautiful, quality piece of equipment, easy to assemble and also to convert to a peddle bike. Simon was very responsive to questions I had. Due to its sturdy build, it’s a bit on the heavy side for a balancing bike, especially since our daughter is small for her age. This initially may have deterred her a bit but then she quickly got the hang of balancing, and asked for the peddles to be added. After practicing a few times, she is now able to cycle by herself, though we still have to help her mount. She loves the bike, is very motivated to take it out to practice, and should be able to fully cycle by herself after this spring and summer are over. The whole transition of first balancing, then properly cycling on a single bike worked out even better than we had hoped for.

I purchased this bike for my 3 year old son. He was having a hard time with pedals on other bikes we had tried. He took off on this bike the day he got it; he rode the bike all evening until it became dark.It is incredibly well balanced, and is of exceptional quality. I was impressed with the hand brakes, this is a feature not found on other balance bikes, and makes for a good transition to a bike with pedals. I could not be happier, and am so glad we went with the little big bike.

Frequently Asked Questions

The LittleBig starts as a little balance bike for kids age two or over.

What sets our design apart is that the unique frame grows bigger as your child grows. And when they are ready to start pedalling, LittleBig can be transformed into a proper pedal bike.

Even though it starts as a balance bike with 14 inch wheels, the LittleBig has a similar saddle height to many 12 inch balance bikes.

These unique features allow it to be used for up to 4 years and take the place of at least two bikes.

For more information check out our in-depth balance bike guide.

We sell the balance bike and pedals separately so customers can choose to purchase the balance bike by itself if preferred.

Purchasing the pedal kit with the bike means you will have them ready for when your little one wants to begin pedalling and you save yourself the cost of posting the pedals separately at a later date.

We would not recommend using stabilisers (known as training wheels in the USA) while your child is learning to pedal.

Starting on a LittleBig balance bike, your child will naturally learn the core cycling skills of balancing, steering and braking. So when you add the pedals to their bike, the transition to pedalling will be easy!

You can read more information on our post balance bikes vs stabilisers (training wheels), which is best?.
