LittleBig vs KidVelo Rookie 14 | Balance To Pedal Bike Comparison
Both the LittleBig and the KidVelo Rookie 14 are balance to pedal bikes, but while the intent is similar, the implementation is different and there are a few key differences. The LittleBig stands out with its bigger saddle height range (30 to 52cm), lighter weight and lower stand-over for easier starts, and premium build assembled in Ireland that spans three riding stages.
The KidVelo Rookie 14 offers a solid two-stage setup for slightly older riders, but it starts higher and covers a shorter growth window. If you want the longest-lasting fit and top-tier component quality, the LittleBig provides more years of comfortable, confidence-building riding on one frame.
Pro's Across Both
LittleBig is a 3-in-1 that covers little balance, big balance and pedal on one platform, starting from a very low saddle height for earlier starters and extending through more years of use. KidVelo Rookie 14 is a quality 2-in-1 that converts from a 14 inch balance bike to a pedal bike and suits kids who are already in the 3 to 6 year size range. Both bikes stand by their quality with lifetime warranty and 30 day returns.

Fit And Sizing
Getting the starting saddle height right is key to confidence. The saddle on the LittleBig starts as low as 30cm in balance mode and grows to 52cm in pedal mode. With 22cm of saddle range, it allows smaller riders begin earlier and stay on the same bike longer.
KidVelo Rookie 14 fits a child's inside leg of 40cm to 55cm (55cm taken from KidVelo Video) so the child needs to be taller to start on the balance bike.

Conversion To Pedals
Each bike converts on the same platform so the child can learn balance without pedals and then transition to pedalling on a the same bike.
LittleBig adds its pedal kit to the bigger mode with saddle as low as 39cm. The pedal kit is mounted to the underside of the frame, and sliding this forward provides easy chain tension. The chain is looped over the right chainstay, and the LittleBig’s recessed allen key bolts keep the rear wheel fixed in place, ensuring consistent brake pad alignment.
Rookie 14 is supplied with the pedal kit to install when the child is ready to begin pedalling. The pedal kit is easily installed in place of the footrest and the chain is looped through a bolted gap in the seat stay.
Build And Components
- Frames and forks - both use 6061 alloy frames with child specific geometry and air tyres on alloy rims. The KidVelo Rookie uses a chromoly steel steerer which adds weight.
- Contact point adjustability - LittleBig has a wider range of saddle adjustment, with geometry that begins slow and stable in little mode, becoming more agile in big mode. KidVelo has more upright position for comfort but sacrificing staility.
- Brakes - Both bikes use real hand brakes in balance and pedal modes so riders learn consistent braking from day one. Front and rear V-brakes with short reach levers for reliable stopping.
Which Should You Choose
- Choose LittleBig if you want the lowest starting saddle height, low standover, lightest weight, and a platform that spans little balance, big balance and 14 inch pedal, all hand assembled in Ireland.
- Choose KidVelo Rookie 14 if your child is a little older and already fits the balance bike and don't need a wide size range.
